Matthew Lombardi Signs With The Nashville Predators



Matthew Lombardi is headed out of the desert and into the Music City, signing a three-year, $10.5 million contract with the Nashville Predators.

The 28-year-old centre had spent the last two seasons with the Coyotes before becoming a free agent.

Parent, Predators agree to two-year deal

The Nashville Predators and defenseman Ryan Parent have agreed on a two-year, $1.85 million contract. The 23-year-old defenseman will make $850,000 in 2010-11 and $1 million in 2011-12.

A restricted free agent, Parent had been acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers on June 19 in exchange for the rights to impending unrestricted free agent Dan Hamhuis.

Parent had 3 points -- including his first NHL goal -- in 48 games with the Flyers in last season. He missed all of January and February due to a back injury. He returned to score 1 goal in 17 playoff games.

In 102 NHL games -- all with the Flyers -- Parent has 1 goal and 7 points.

Parent had been a 2005 first-round pick of the Predators, and was traded to Philadelphia in 2007 as part of the package that landed Peter Forsberg in Nashville.

"The Nashville Predators' trade of center Mike Santorelli on Thursday can be classified as a minor transaction. Until the next time the Predators end up in a shootout, that is.

A productive scorer in the American Hockey League who failed to establish himself as a full-time NHL player over the last two seasons, Santorelli was dealt to the Florida Panthers for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2011 draft. If the 24-year-old plays a significant number of NHL games this season, the pick would move to an earlier round.

He played just 32 games for the Predators and had three points (two goals, one assist) since being drafted in the sixth round in 2004. However, he was a perfect 7-for-7 in shootout attempts last season – 3-for-3 for the Predators and 4-for-4 for the Milwaukee Admirals.

"Mike's going to play," Nashville assistant general manager Paul Fenton said. "Mike's got a good chance to be a full-time NHL player. We just decided to go in a different direction. It shows our personnel people have been able to acquire depth and talent."

With young forwards such as Cal O'Reilly and Nick Spaling on the Nashville roster at the end of last season and a group of young forwards led by first-year pro Blake Geoffrion and European transfers Jonas Andersson and Linus Klasen being added to the mix, franchise officials had a hard time figuring where Santorelli fit."

Nashville Predators Re-Sign Cody Franson To Two-Year Deal



"The Predators' roster is set for training camp.

After General Manager David Poile announced Wednesday he had signed restricted free agent defenseman Cody Franson to a two-year contract, he indicated that he is done with major player personnel moves for the foreseeable future.

"I think we are ready to go to training camp," Poile said. "Our defense is set. I think we have enough forwards. Possibly we might sign another depth forward, but I think this is where we are at."

There are still some questions behind No. 1 goaltender Pekka Rinne, but for now the Predators will open competition for the backup role amongst their prospects.

"Hopefully they will be up to the task and we will see what training camp brings," Poile said. "If they aren't, we will go in a different direction."

Franson was the final member of Nashville's core group from 2009-10 to sign. His contract is a one-way deal worth $1.6 million."
