Elliotte Friedman reported Nashville Predators GM David Poile’s response on Saturday to numerous questions about what he’ll do with pending free agent defensemen Shea Weber and Ryan Suter was, “Ask me on February 27″, which is the NHL trade deadline. While there would undoubtedly be considerable interest if Poile were to shop one or both blueliners, his priority remains re-signing them, and he made it sound as though he won’t move either guy if they’re still unsigned by the deadline and the Predators are still in the playoff race at that time.

SPECTOR’S NOTE:
I disagree with the view the Predators would get a better return if they shopped either guy or both at the trade deadline, rather than in June. It’s still possible to get a good return in June, when teams will have more cap space and more willingness to make trades. One need only look at trade activity in June in recent years, especially near the Entry Draft, to see that. Unless the Predators get a monstrous offer for either guy by the trade deadline, which would improve their offense without jeopardizing their playoff chances, I don’t expect Weber or Suter to be shopped as long as the Preds remain in the playoff hunt.

Gledam sad malo KHL,tacnije mec UFA - Sibir Novosibirk i na obije strane je bio po jedan potencijalni igrac Predatorska.Koliko bi samo bili opasni da Radulov i Tarasenko sledece godine pojacaju tim,naravno pod uslovom da potpisu blizance Radulov je surovo efikasan,pregled igre nevjerovatan.Tarasenko nije bas blistao,ali imao je par strasnih izmjena gdje su se vidjeli bljeskovi talenta.

The Nashville Predators will be without star defenceman Shea Weber
for an indefinite period due to a concussion, the team announced on
Tuesday. He will be evaluated on a daily basis with no timetable for his
return.

Weber was hit hard by Mark Fistric
in Nashville's game against Dallas Friday. He appeared fine after the
game and was even able to speak to reporters. On Monday, however, Weber
left practice early and the team was unsure what was ailing him.

Weber is Nashville's captain and leading scorer with 29 points in 35
games, and also leads the team with a +14 rating -- they only have three
players on the plus side of the ledger.

Weber has not missed a game since March 2, 2010.

Nashville recalled defenceman Ryan Ellis
from Milwaukee (AHL) in time for Monday's game. Ellis was the team's
top pick in the 2009 draft, 11th overall, and was having a big year with
17 points in 26 games with the Admirals. He played 18 minutes in his
NHL debut Monday, registerign three shots and a -1 rating in the loss to
Detroit.

Ellis played for Canada three times in the World Junior Championship
and was the Canadian Major Junior Player of the Year for 2010-11.

Weber could be back Friday, says Trotz

Another NHL star is out with a concussion, yes. But before the sky falls, it’s worth noting that Nashville defenseman Shea Weber could be back as early as Friday.

“He won’t play tomorrow, but there’s a chance for Friday,” Predators coach Barry Trotz said today, as per The Tennessean. “He is recovering pretty well I would say, but nothing is for sure all the time.”

Weber didn’t play yesterday in Nashville’s 4-1 loss to the Red Wings, nor will he see action tomorrow at home versus the Wild.

Friday the Preds are in St. Louis to take on a Blues side with the
best home record (14-3-1) in the NHL. So yeah, it would be nice for
Nashville if he were back by then.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how the Predators fare
without their big-minute blueliner and leading scorer. Weber appeared
in all 82 games last season, so his absence isn’t something they’ve
grown used to.

Rink Wrap: Suter doesn't plan to talk contract


The Predators are going to have to make a decision on Ryan Suter at the NHL trade deadline.

The blue-chip defenceman, one of the best potential free agents this summer, told reporters during Friday’s NHL all-star weekend media day that he doesn’t have any interest in having contract talks until the season is over.

The decision by the 27-year-old Suter is significant because it means Nashville GM David Poile risks losing Suter for nothing if he doesn’t deal him by Feb. 27.

“At this point, it’s not worth going and trying to do something,” said Suter. “Then it becomes a distraction not only to me, but to my teammates as well.”

The Predators could always move Suter’s rights at the draft in June. If that’s the case, the Flyers could swoop in and make a deal. Suter sounded like he’s prepared to stay, but that could be difficult with fellow star blueliner Shea Weber only a year away from UFA status.

“I love it in Nashville,” said Suter. “It’s a great place to live and a great place to play. The fans there are amazing. They get more educated every year.”

Weber is making $7.5 million and was surprised to hear Suter isn’t in any hurry to sign.

“I was surprised maybe (he did it) here, and I’m surprised it took him this long to get it off his chest, obviously,” Weber said. “We talk a lot and that’s been weighing on him a while. (Poile) is trying to get a deal done.”
