Osnovani od strane tajkuna Frederic Mclaughlina koji je za vrijeme prvog svjetskog rata bio komandir 333rd Machine Gun Battalion koje je imao nadimak Blackhawk.Inace black hawk je poznati poglavica sauk indijanaca sa podrucja Illinoisa.

Prvobitno zahvaljuci predsjedniku MSG Texu Ricardu su trebali nositi naziv NY Giants.Medutim mediji su dali nadimak Texs Rangers koje je vremenom postalo i zvanicno.

Veoma zanimljivo dobili su ime po urbanoj legendi misticnom demonu koji kako kaze legenda nastanjuje Pine Barrens of New Jersey.

Ime dobili po crtanom filmu “Johnny Canuck”kanadski superheroj.

Po pjesmi W. C. Handy -“St. Louis Blues”

Podrucje na moru tj zalivu San Josea poznato kao red triangle bogato sa velikom populacijom ajkula.

Fosil iskopan na podrucju Nashville lobanja macke predatora koja je zivila prije 10 000 godina.

Ovdje je sve jasno americki civilni rat patrotizam itd.

- Habs is an abbreviation of "les habitants," the informal name given to
the original settlers of New France, dating back to the 17th Century. So
it's a natural fit for the The Montreal Canadiens, established in 1909
and marketed as a French-Canadian hockey team.
Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error.
According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs"
was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard
apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was
for "Habitants." Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo
stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien."

The Rocky Mountain News set up a phone number to call back in 1995 where
people all over the area could call in and leave a message as to what
the name of its new hockey team should be. When I heared these radio
announcements they had a top 10 list with the Black Bears as being
number 1. The rest of the names were even worse. The winter of 1994-95
in the area was littered with avalanches in which people were stuck in
areas unable to get out due to roads shut down. "Avalanche" wasn't even
on the top 10 list. I called the phone number one afternoon and left a
message saying, "Avalanche should be the name of this team. Its in the
true spirit and nature of Colorado and it just sounds plain awesome.
Besides, Black Bears is the name of the University of Maine's
championship hockey team. Its got to be Avalanche." The very next day,
this radio station put "Avalanche" number 1 on the list. My name is Mike

- The winged wheel logo was actually borrowed from a cycling club in Montreal. Here's how it happened.

Detroit was awarded an NHL franchise in 1926, and the owners stocked their team by purchasing the roster of the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League. The team was known as the Detroit Cougars for a couple of years, then the Falcons. They did not win often under either name.

In 1932, a millionaire named James Norris bought the team. Here's the rest of the story, as told by Bob Duff in his Detroit Red Wings article in Total Hockey: The Official Encyclopedia of the National Hockey League:

"Norris had been a member of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association, a sporting club with cycling roots. The MAAA's teams were known by their club emblem and these Winged Wheelers were the first winners of the Stanley Cup in 1893. Norris decided that a version of their logo was perfect for a team playing in the Motor City and on October 5, 1932 the club was renamed the Red Wings."

Coincidence or not, the new name and logo marked a turnaround in the team's fortunes. The Detroit Red Wings made the playoffs in their first season, and won their first Stanley Cup in 1936.
