LIGHTNING INK BREWER TO FOUR-YEAR DEAL



The Tampa Bay Lightning, who are still looking at a deal for forward Steven Stamkos, have made a signing prior to Friday's NHL Entry Draft.

Defenceman Eric Brewer has agreed to a four-year deal with the club that will pay him just under $16 million.

"We are very pleased to get Eric re-signed today," general manager Steve Yzerman said in a statement. "He was an important part of our team after being acquired at last year's deadline and he played a key role in the playoffs both on and off the ice."

The 32-year-old, who recorded nine goals and seven assists in 76 games last season with the St. Louis Blues and the Lightning, was set to become a free agent on July 1.

"I'm happy to be a part of the Lightning going forward," Brewer said. "The organization is clearly moving in the right direction and I'm proud to be a part of it."

Brewer, who won a gold medal with Canada at the Olympics in 2002, has 65 goals and 145 assists in 758 career games.

Lightning Acquire Another Islander



"Lightning-land has become somewhat of a resurrection ground for a handful of former New York Islanders.

On Saturday, Tampa Bay tapped back into that pipeline hoping to continue the trend, acquiring 25-year-old defenseman Bruno Gervais from the Islanders for future considerations. Gervais, a former sixth-round pick by New York in 2003, is scheduled to be a restricted free agent on July 1.

Former Islanders Nate Thompson and Sean Bergenheim found success with the Lightning last season and goaltender Dwayne Roloson, acquired from New York in January, was a big key to Tampa Bay reaching the Eastern Conference finals.

Now Gervais, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of Longueuil, Quebec, hopes to continue that string as he looks to jumpstart a career that appeared to be stagnant last season with New York. During an injury-plagued season, he had six assists and was minus-14 while being limited to 53 games because of a broken orbital bone suffered in a fight.

"I didn't have the year I wanted last year, and sometimes in a career a fresh start is the best thing you can have,'' Gervais said. "And there is nothing better than starting fresh with a solid organization like Tampa Bay, from the top to the bottom everyone there seems to be on the right track and heading in the right direction.

"I'm really excited to join this mix, and this is a team that is going for the Cup and I'm really happy to jump on board and I'll do whatever it takes to help.''

In junior hockey and in the American Hockey League, Gervais had strong offensive numbers, once scoring 22 goals and 50 points in juniors and 17 goals with Bridgeport of the AHL during the 2005-06 season. But he brings more of a jack-of-all-trades style — he does a lot of things well but doesn't have one particular strength. He skates well, moves the puck well, is competent in his end and is a right-handed shot, which is an area the Lightning were lacking on the blue line.

Pa ovaj traži preko 6 miliona i neće da popusti (za sad) a ovi nemogu da mu plate toliko jer će biti preko dozvoljenog kapa ( a mislim da i nemaju tolko love ). E sad ima rešenja ili da Stamkos popusti ili da oni vide da mu plate koliko traži ali onda moraju da se odreknu nekog od ove dvojice pomenutih da bi bili ispod kapa. Ili da ga puste u slučaju da neko ponudi koliko stamkos traži a oni neće (ne mogu) da plate.
Tako mi se čini.

Apsolutno se slažem sa ovim crvenim. Tо je sasvim sigurno, ako treba platiće mu i 9 miliona, jer je mladji (perspektivniji) od bilo kog u timu, tako da će verovatno morati da otpišu nekog drugog (Ja mislim Vinsenta). Ganjea neće ni potpisivati. neće moći da izdrže da plaćaju sve zvezde, nije samo kap u pitanju, već lova sama za sebe, nisu tako bogati da mogu da prosipaju, osim toga neko mora i da igra za njih osim ovih nekoliko megastarova, a ti ostali isto neće da igraju za boraniju, osim ako to i nisu, u kom slučaju im i ne trebaju. mislim njih je duboko u PO ove godine i dovela kvaliteta treće i četvrte linije, a to brale mora da se plati takodje. Steve Y je legenda al ako nema love moraće dobro da zalegne da Stamkos popusti i potpiše za manju sumu da bi ostao u TB (neznam koliko je voljan da to uradi).
Stamkos ostaje ali neko će biti trejdovan.

Ja lično bi voleo Vinsenta Lekavaliea u Leafsima više nego Richardsa ili Parisea, samo nisam siguran da oni koji odlučuju misle isto (računajući i samog Vinija) a drugi problem je kad treba poslati dobrog igrača u istu konferenciju, videli smo da se to neradi tek tako, koliku je cenu samo platio Burk za Kesela, na nos mu je izašlo.

Ja verujem da ce Stamkos ostati u Tampi. Imaju oni mesta sigurno, zar ce im neki Lundini i statijaznam da zauzmu toliko cap-a da nemaju za Stamkosa. I Gagne je FA, tako da on otpada.
Stojim pri tvrdnji da glavni igraci ostaju u Tampi, tako da necu dalje da komentarisem sta bi bilo kad bi bilo.

Mislim da nije realno ocekivati da ce se Tampa tek tako odreci 1 pika posle 2 godine

Sve sto su ucinili u poslednjih par godina palo bi u vodu da se potpisu Stamkosa.

Tampa Bay qualified Steven Stamkos yesterday giving them the right to match any offer sheet. Negotiations took place over the weekend, and are expected to continue today. “My expectation is I will speak to Don (Meehan),” Yzerman said. “I am still optimistic that we can get something accomplished and I look forward to speaking to him.”

If Stamkos remains unsigned, he could indeed receive an offer sheet. The Flyers are internally debating on whether they should try to sign Stamkos to an offer sheet. The Lightning could match any offer, but the pressure is on them to get a deal done by Friday so that they don’t have to deal with offer sheets.

So the Flyers unloaded Jeff Carter and Mike Richards, traded Darroll Powe, signed Andreas Nodl with a slight pay cut, and did not qualify Dan Carcillo. The Flyers have been creating some added cap space. They are negotiating with Ville Leino, Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek. If they stash Michael Leighton in the AHL, the Flyers could have approximately $8.3 million in cap space. Two sources say the Flyers could be interested in Stamkos if he remains unsigned on July 1st. The Lightning reportedly have lost between $20 and $25 million last season. They might have financial limitations and there have been reports that Stamkos may not want to play in Tampa anymore. Tampa has reportedly offered him $7 million a season. If Stamkos gets on offer sheet on Friday, it could be in the $9-10 million range. If the Flyers or Maple Leafs were able to get Stamkos to a big offer sheet, Tampa may not be able to match it as they have the big contracts of Vinny Lecavalier, Marty St. Louis, Ryan Malone and Eric Brewer. If Yzerman feels he can’t get a deal done should they look at trading him for assets that could play next season or take the 4 1st rounds they’d get as compensation from an offer sheet?

Ma imaju oni mesta za njega u Tampi, to je sigurno.. Po mojim proracunima, imaju mesta i za Ganjea (ako bude oko nekih max 4 milki po sezoni cap hita), samo sada da li zele da popune ceo cap, to vec ne znam.. Moguce je, sto Bledoliki kaze, da oni ne zele do kraja da se istrose, jer ipak nemaju prihode kao neki drugi timovi sa vecih i popularnijih trzista..

E sad, jedino pitanje sada je njegov bezobrazluk.. Mislim da bi mu neko dao 9 miliona ako isproba trziste, a mislim da mu Tampa toliko ne bi dala..

Inace evo, Tampa radi ono sto sam i predpostavljao.. Potpisali su i MA Berzerona, 2 godine, 2 miliona, to je 1 milion cap hita po sezoni, sto je jako dobro.. Juce su potpisali Geravisa, jos jedan mali ugovor, 550 hiljada..
Sada imaju 15 igraca (minimum je 20), i skoro 22 miliona $ do vrha capa..
Da potpisu Stamkos za 7.5 miliona cap hita (mislim da ce tolko), ostaje im nesto vise od 14 miliona za 4 igraca.. I tu cetvoricu ne moraju da traze na trzistu, imaju ih kod sebe, ako hoce da ih ponovo potpisu (tu su recimo Pursel, Ganje, Bergenhajm, Hol..)..
Ali najveci problem za tampu su golmani.. I Roloson i Smit su UFA, Roloson je mator.. Ako budu hteli dobrog golmana, morace i da plate, i to im mozda zezne cap..
Ali vidim da oko golmana Tampe nema nikakvih vesti..
